Fabric Suggestions for 233 Glamour Girl Dress

Glamour oozed in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s, and our 233 Glamour Girl Dress is the daytime dress the starlets wore. It emphasizes curves, drapes elegantly, and lends an air of discreet sexiness. The close-fitting bodice is visually cinched in with front waistline ties, and fits smoothly into a flared skirt. Shoulder pads lend that commanding air to any aspiring celebrity.  And, with three lengths, you can make an evening gown and a fun sundress.  The dress uses surprisingly little fabric (the largest size in the longest length uses only 3.5 yards) - indicating fabric rationing of the WWII era.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium-weight fabrics with drape, such as silk or rayon crepe, satin, challis, soft cotton.

PLEASE NOTE: These suggested fabrics are based on fabrics that are in stock at the time the blog post is written, and may go out of stock from store at some point.  If link is invalid for specific product, look for a similar fabric you can substitute.

This deadstock rayon challis has a subtle diamond woven texture under a nice scale of floral print. It is in stock at Stonemountain and Daughter Fabrics, but probably won't last long!

Who doesn't love a little black dress?  This black silk crepe de chine from Vogue Fabrics will surely sew up nicely! It may be kind of simple, but it is timeless and will never go out of style, plus you can embellish or accessorize to your own style.

I'm a huge fan of polka dots!  This cotton sateen is a rich blue with gold metallic dots from Bolt Fabric Boutique. Subtle yet not your standard polka dot.  This could be a great winter project to have ready for the spring in any of the views.

Harts Fabrics has a  multi-color floral rayon crepe is perfect for a spring dress.  I can envision it with a cute sun hat and strappy sandals! Maybe I'm too forward thinking, but I know how busy holidays are and the how long winter can be.  So, I find it helpful to look have some fun and uplifting projects.  And this fabric is perfect for that!
