Fabric Suggestions for 145 Chinese Pajamas

The casual comfort and simple elegance of 145 Chinese Pajamas will make it your favorite at-home wear in super-soft cotton or the perfect evening outfit in silk and brocade. The fully-lined mid-thigh Jacket features stand-up Mandarin collar, set-in sleeves, inside and outside pockets, button-loop frog front closures, and extra-long sleeves that roll back to expose a colorful or decorative lining. The loose-fitting Pants have a drawstring waist and cuff bands that can be made of the same fabric or a complementary decorative fabric.

Suggested Fabrics: Soft and fluid silks, synthetics, cottons, silk velvet. For a more structured look, cotton, lightweight denim or corduroy, medium-weight silk, lightweight wool. NOTE: Jacket lining shows when cuff is rolled back you can choose a complementary fabric or use the same fabric as the outer.

Below are some fabric suggestions from some of our favorite fabric stores.  Please note, these suggested fabrics are based on fabrics that are in stock at the time the blog post is written, and may go out of stock from store at some point.  If link is invalid for specific product, look for a similar fabric you can substitute.

This silk/cotton voile from Stonemountain and Daughter Fabric is a great option for the jacket or pants as is or as a lining.  The silk gives it a great sheen (and luxurious feel) and the cotton makes it a lot easier to work with and sew.  There are lots of colors there too!

I also love the silk noil (raw silk) that Stone Mountain and Daughter carries.  There are lots of colors so you can mix and match with jacket, cuffs, and pants, if you want.

I love the bold pops of color in this cotton lawn from Hart's Fabrics.  Would be beautiful on it's own, or with the silk/cotton blend above!

For a more structured look this viscose twill from Oak Fabrics would be lovely, especially for the jacket.  And, a coordinating metallic-looking silk or cotton, like this, would be amazing as the cuff lining.

I love the peacock print on this Liberty of London Tana lawn from Bolt Fabric Boutique.

Embroidered silk dupioni from Vogue Fabrics could make an stunning structured jacket.

Finally, the tencel/linen that we have in stock at Folkwear would work very well for the pants or jacket.  It is drape-y, soft, and opaque.
