Fabric Suggestions for 305 Japanese Interiors

Fabric Suggestions for 305 Japanese Interiors

This collection of traditional Japanese pieces in 305 A Japanese Interior can be beautifully incorporated into any decorating scheme.  The pattern includes floor cushions (zabuton), sleeping pillows (makura), futon, futon cover, top quilt (kakebuton), decorative curtains (noren), and tips for adapting any kimono pattern (such as Folkwear #113) for a quilted sleeping kimono (yogi). Information about traditional handwork and dyeing techniques, as well as sashiko embroidery and patterns, are also included.

PLEASE NOTE: These suggested fabrics are based on fabrics that are in stock at the time the blog post is written, and may go out of stock from store at some point.  If link is invalid for specific product, look for a similar fabric you can substitute.

Oak Fabrics carries this lovely Merchant and Mills Japanese Moyo Dot Seersucker fabric in several colors. This fabric could be used for quilt (Kakebuton) or sleeping pillows (Makura).

This Japanese Sevenberry cotton from Stonemountain and Daughter also will work well for the quilt.

These fat quarter bundles of traditional indigo fabric from Fabric Indulgence are 22" x 18" and come in bundles of 8 (scroll to bottom of page for the fat quarters).  This equals 2 yards of fabric to work with and is a great way to get an assortment of fabric for any of the pillows to mix and match and be creative with.

This homespun indigo striped fabric could be used for the futon cover or the floor cushions (Zabuton).  It is also from Fabric Indulgence.

I've been drawn to this fabric at Hart's Fabrics when looking for fabric for other projects.  As it is a canvas I haven't quite thought of the right piece to use it for.  Now that I'm searching for fabric for the folding foam mat (Shikibuton) it seems to have clicked!  I believe this would be a sturdy and beautiful fabric for this pattern.

The 305 A Japanese Interior pattern has so much potential. We'd love to see what you create with it and the fabrics you choose!
