Misses 8-20; Men's 34-44.

The Australian Bush Outfit (c.1943-1955) is a classic bush jacket, trousers, and shorts from Hollywood's version of the tropical British colonies.

Our sewing pattern has three garments, plus a bag, to sew.  The hip length Bush Jacket buttons in the front and has a standard pointed collar and lapels.  Front darts and shaped side-back seams provide fit, as do back pleats which drop from a gently-curved back yoke.  Two piece sleeves are pleated into buttoned cuffs, a buckled belt is worn slightly high-waisted to further enhance the slim tailoring.  Safari pockets and deep flap pockets complete the detailing. Our original garment is made of a loosely-woven, medium weight cotton.

The Bush Trousers have a buttoned front fly closing and are pleated into a wide waistband which adjusts with overlapping buckled belt tabs.  Deep angled side pockets, button-flap back pockets and left-side pocket are authentic touches.

Walking Shorts are the same Bush Trousers cut and hemmed shorter.  Roll them up to wear them as intended.

Make it in khaki for the authentic look, or silk twill for a classy updated impression. Pattern includes instructions for the slingeroo, a handy over-the-shoulder bag that completes the outfit.

Suggested fabrics: Medium-weight cottons and blends such as poplin, denim, or chino; medium-weight linen; light-weight wool gabardine.
