122 Hong Kong Cheongsam - PDF

Extra Small to 3X Large

This classic dress in two lengths is synonymous with Oriental elegance. The Cheongsam (Cantonese for "Long Dress) dates from the 1930's and is homage to the merging of Eastern and Western fashion from this time.

Simple to sew, it has only two main pattern pieces and is cut without shoulder seams.  It has an appealing side-front opening topped off with a mandarin collar. Pattern includes instructions for custom fitting and authentic embellishment.

The dress is slender and fits closely in the bust and hips.  The hemline is slightly curved with side slits to provide ease of movement. Pattern is for dress with facings at front opening, hem, and side slits. For instructions and additional cutting layouts for traditional bias-bound version, click here.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium-weight silk; lightweight brocade and jacquard weaves; satin; rayon or blends.
