Here in the Appalachian Mountains; we have some long hot days, some mild and lovely evenings, and often quite a few afternoon thunderstorms. It is frequently humid and sultry. When not in drought, we can accumulate nearly 50 inches of rain a year. This lush climate is classified as a sub-tropic rainforest in some pockets of the National Forests that surround our rural town.
Some days temperatures can reach the highs of 80-90 degrees with well over 50% humidity. There is nothing better than a lightweight sundress, in my opinion, on these particular days! However, after the rain I often find myself looking for a layer to throw on as the air pressure and temperature drops.
After returning from coastal South Carolina it doesn't seem quite so hot! However, summer is in full swing here in the Mountains of North Carolina.
Here are a few of our favorite summer patterns. We have a SUMMER18 sale running until July 14th! It is 20% off your total order! We hope you take advantage of this offer and find your own favorite summer pattern.
Old Mexico Dress 142 is as comfortable as can be on a hot summer day. A lightweight cotton and a little breeze, and you are suddenly refreshed!
Beach Pyjamas 252 Have a great flow and can be constructed in a variety of fabrics. We suggest light to medium-weight fabrics with soft drapes such as rayon, silk, or challis; also crisp, lightweight cotton or linen.
Blonde Bombshell 239 is a fun and flirty dress. Perhaps for an evening outing? It also has a knitting pattern for a bolero sweater. Which would be a lovely evening layer for cooler nights.
Japanese Hapi and Haori 129 Is a great lightweight layer. It could be used as a cover-up or a quick fix for battling the chill of A/C or too much sun.
Child's Prairie Dress and Pinafore 213 Includes an undeniably cute sunbonnet, which comes in sizes for children AND adults. I know several adults who use this for gardening to keep the sun off their necks. Simple and pretty!
Hollywood Pants 250 has a pattern for a cute pair of shorts! This pattern has three different pants styles included. You could even start on pants for the fall!
Sunset Wrap 271 made in a light fabric with good drapes such as silk chiffon, charmeuse, rayon, or crepe is perfect for summer evenings as well. If planning ahead for fall, consider wool or wool blends. Note that the back side of fabric can be seen. Also, this is available as a PDF pattern! You could make a few versions.
Finally, the 219 Intimacies is a wonderful summer pattern, with 3 patterns for lightweight lounge or sleeping garments. They are all super comfortable (cut on the bias) and beautiful. The slip can easily be made into a summer dress too.
In whichever part of the world you live or travel to, we hope you enjoy your days. If you are in the southern hemisphere and its winter, we hope this gives you some sunny days to look forward to soon. Again, ALL patterns are on sale until July 14th. This is not limited to summer patterns only.
The featured image is a sneak peek of a pattern we are working on having ready to release soon. I took this new garment to the beach last week and absolutely loved how it fit and felt (and it has pockets)! We can't wait to have it printed and ready for you to try. Thank you all for supporting Folkwear!
