Last Minute Mother's Day Ideas

Last Minute Mother's Day Ideas

Mother's Day is coming up for those of us in North America, and we have some great Folkwear ideas for gifting.  These are perfect last minute gifts!

271 Sunset Wrap.  This is a very very quick make.  You can cut it out and sew it up in less than 2 hours.  There is no fitting needed as it is a one-size garment, and it makes a lovely and interesting wrap/shawl/scarf.  All you need is about 2 yards of fabric and the pattern (and thread).  And, the pattern can be downloaded instantly as a PDF so you can start this today!

Sew up one of our 146 Six Bags from Around the World.  Any of these patterns can make a beautiful and useful (and very quick-to-make) gift.  Add embroidery for a special touch.  This pattern is only available as a PDF - so get it instantly and get to work!  If you've never used PDF patterns, this is a great one to start with because there are only a few print-at-home sheets to use for most of the bags.  The Turkish Drawstring bag (below) print on one sheet, take less than 1/4 yard of fabric, sew up in about 30 minutes, and can be easily embellished (add an embroidered monogram).

The 129A Japanese Tabi pattern has been very popular recently.  This pattern makes a great set of socks to use at home puttering around the house.  Keeping feet warm and allowing sandals to be worn with them too.  This one is also available as a PDF (as well as print) pattern so you get get it right away.

269 Metropolitan Hat.  A very popular pattern for good reason.  It is easy and quick to sew and makes a cute hat with endless variations. This would be a great gift to sew up and give to a mother who enjoys hats.  Also available as a PDF pattern (as well as print) to download and use today!  Also, it only prints on 7 pieces of paper at home, so it's not hard to use.

A Folkwear travel pouch would be great and very useful (and so fun and colorful)!

Sewing supplies - we have a number of very useful tools from embroidery thread to bias tape makers to buttonhole cutters.

A pattern!  Choose from nearly 100 patterns to gift your mother.

Gift card.  A great option when you can't decide (you also get it right away!).

Yes, Heidi – so many people learned to sew by themselves, and not from a “mother”. My grandmother taught me the basics, but a cousin helped me learn how to use patterns. And my grandmother, who was an impressive seamstress, learned from her father. We can be our own “sewing moms”, and they can come to us in many forms (fathers, aunts, friends, and including YouTube strangers!).

Funny how you assume people had a “sewing mom” what about people who found it on their own, learned it on their own, and grew without the help of others on their own. So I give thanks to myself for learning how to sew
